AiR Artist Announcement - Spring 2024

We are thrilled to announce the inaugural class of artists selected for Civitai’s new Artist in Residence Program. This diverse group brings a rich blend of creativity, technological innovation, and conceptual inspiration to our community.

Noah Miller, co-founder of The Opposition Party, is a filmmaker and screenwriter based in Los Angeles. A dedicated storyteller, Noah's work is characterized by a deep commitment to the art of cinematic expression. The focus of his residency is a story driven sci-fi drama short film called ZERO. He's currently focused on training a Lora to capture cinematic closeups of nuanced facial expressions to serve this new short film.

Domenec Miralles is a recent Goldsmiths graduate from the UK. Miralles’ work considers themes around the bodily image, the phenomenology of AI workflows, and the rhythms of thought in new modes of production. His residency project focuses on creating a graphic novel-inspired animation about a restaurant on a hill. Domenec has exhibited across Europe, both individually and as part of the collective Majin Don Patch.

Arvid Tappert, joining us from Stockholm, is an animator renowned for his work with Swedish Public TV and his creation of the character universe known as Odd Birds. Arvid's project for the residency will extend Odd Birds into a short film that demonstrates AI as a tool that enhances rather than replaces the animator's craft. His expertise in Krita AI and Blender, combined with a passion for sharing the behind-the-scenes process of his work, makes him a valuable addition to our program.

Lastly, we are excited to introduce Shinji Murakami, a Japanese artist based in Brooklyn, whose work springboards from the philosophy of Gunpei Yokoi, the famous inventor of Nintendo’s Game Boy. His focus on interrogating the pixelated expressions of 8-bit video games embodies the philosophy of lateral thinking with withered technology. Shinji's residency project will involve his recent suite of Atari-style video games, including PIZZA BOY.

We look forward to sharing their progress and insights throughout their residency in the STUDIO section of our site, where each artist will share their individual creative process. Join us in welcoming Noah, Domenec, Arvid, and Shinji to the Civitai community.
